It’s time to settle the difference between sweaters, sweatshirts, pullovers, and hoodies once and for all!
The Sweater
Sweaters offer a more formal and perhaps refined, crafted from a variety of materials for added warmth. From wool and cashmere to synthetic blends and cotton, special care may be needed to avoid shrinking. Sweaters are sometimes referred to as knitwear. Be sure to follow care instructions and use wool wash as needed. They can come in tight fitting or relaxed fitting style. They can be minimalistic style to bold extremes - yes, we're talking about the ones that get pulled out for Christmas each year.
The Sweatshirt
Sweatshirts, on the other hand, are perfect for a casual, streetwear fashion. Made mostly of cotton and synthetic materials, they are comfortable and less sophisticated than sweaters. They are designed to withstand rough usage while still remaining stylish. Wear them for anything from everyday activities to lounging, breakdancing, and even a night at the bar for a laid-back cool vibe. Sweatshirts typically feature a crewneck style, without collars, hoods, or buttons.
The Hoodie
Hoodies are either pullovers with a drawstring and attached hood, or jackets with a hood. Despite being made of similar fabrics, they are not the same as sweatshirts. Confusingly, people often use "hoodies" and "sweatshirts" interchangeably. However, sweatshirts are not hooded. Hopefully, that clears things up!
The Pullover
Now, the term "pullover" encompasses any garment that is worn by pulling it over the head, without the use of zippers or buttons - though some pullover designs have zippers or buttons as a design or styling feature rather than for functional purpose. Pullovers can refer to a sweater, sweatshirt, or hoodie, making it a convenient and all-encompassing term.
