Stop Buying the Wrong Lipstick: How to Match Your Makeup to Your Color Season

Inserito da Ebony Milton il giorno

Finding your perfect makeup isn’t just about the latest trends—it’s about harmony. If you’ve ever put on a "universally flattering" lipstick only to feel washed out or oddly "theatrical," you’ve likely experienced a clash with your seasonal color palette.

The 12-season color analysis system takes the traditional four seasons and breaks them down into three sub-categories each, focusing on hue (warm vs. cool), value (light vs. dark), and chroma (bright vs. muted). Here is how to align your makeup bag with your unique natural chemistry.

The Spring Family: Warmth and Radiance

Springs generally have a golden undertone. Their makeup should look fresh, luminous, and never heavy.

Light Spring: Your look is all about delicacy. Think "watercolor" shades like peach, soft coral, and champagne. Heavy black eyeliner is your enemy; swap it for a soft cocoa brown.

True Spring: You thrive in high-saturation warmth. Go for sunny apricots, grassy greens for eyeshadow accents, and a true poppy red or warm coral for the lips.

• Bright Spring: You can handle the most 'electric' colors of the Spring family. Your features pop with clear turquoise liners and vibrant, glossy watermelon pinks. It’s good to note that this subtype is a 'neighbor' of Winter—a fact that helps you play with and expand your palette.

The Summer Family: Cool and Muted

Summers have a blue or pinkish undertone and a soft, "filtered" quality to their features. Matte finishes often look more sophisticated on you than high-glitter ones.

Light Summer: Think "iced pastels." Dusty rose, lavender, and soft mint look ethereal on you. Your best "nude" is a cool, pale pink.

True Summer: Your palette is the epitome of cool. Stay away from anything orange or gold. Slate greys, cool berries, and soft plums create a harmonious, elegant look.

Soft Summer: You sit between summer and autumn. Your colors are "muddied" in the best way—think toasted mauve, taupe, and sage. Avoid harsh lines; blended, smoky edges are your best friend.

The Autumn Family: Earthy and Rich

Autumns are grounded in warmth but with more depth and "spice" than Springs. Think of the colors of a forest floor.

Soft Autumn: Your look is gentle and sophisticated. Muted olives, warm sands, and soft terracotta work beautifully. You look best in satin finishes that mimic a natural glow.

True Autumn: This is the home of rich ochre, burnt orange, and deep bronze. A matte brick-red lip or a copper eyeshadow will make your eyes sparkle.

Deep Autumn: You share some intensity with Winter but keep the warmth. Deep chocolate browns, eggplant, and forest greens allow your features to stand out without being overwhelmed.

The Winter Family: High Contrast and Cool

Winters are defined by "icy" or "jewel" tones. Your features are usually high-contrast, and you are one of the few seasons that truly shines in pure black and crisp white.

Deep Winter: You can pull off the darkest, moodiest shades—blackened plum, deep navy, and burgundy. Your "natural" look can handle more drama than most.

True Winter: Think "Snow White." High-contrast, cool colors like emerald, sapphire, and a classic "cool" red (with blue undertones) are your staples.

Bright Winter: You are the most vibrant of the bunch. You look incredible in "neon" cool tones like fuchsia, electric blue, and icy silver highlights.
